2nd Dendê Do Recife International Capoeira Event

There will be an International Capoeira encounter in Ottawa from December 7th to December 10th. The event is under the supervision of Contra-Mestre Fabinho from Grupo Dende do Recife. Many mestres and groups are to attend this encounter our Professor Comprido and some of his students.

Here the complete details concerning the events:

Wednesday, December 7: Welcoming/Lecture & Roda
Movement Arts Ottawa (111A Rideau St.) 8 pm – 10 pm

Thursday, December 8: Workshops
All Saints Anglican Church Sandy Hill (317 Chapel St.) 6 pm – 10 pm

Friday, December 9: Workshop & Roda
Routhier Community Centre (172 Guigues Ave.) 6 pm – 9 pm

Saturday, December 10:
Capoeira Workshop, Batizado & Troca de Corda and Show
Aviation Museum (11 Aviation Pkwy.) 1 pm – 5 pm

Saturday, December 10: Party with Special musical guest & DJ
Café Nostalgica (603 Cumberland St.) 9 pm – 2 am

For visiting students: Each Workshop or Roda: $30, Event t-shirt: $20

Porto da Barra Montreal will be having our Holiday Roda on Saturday, December 3rd. All participants will receive a gift from Professor Comprido

Where: Pierrefonds
When: 2:30pm

**UPDATE**
Here are the directions for the holiday Roda on Saturday, December 3rd:
- Take the 20 West to St. John Boulevard.
- Take St. Jean North to Pierrefonds Boulevard, turn right and go one street up to 4880 Rene-Emard.
- It’s a Kung Fu and Tai Chi school in front of Pierrefonds Comprehensive High School

If you need a lift, cars will be leaving the academy (downtown) at 1:45pm.

Workshop & Capoeira Demonstration

The group will be having a workshop and a capoeira demonstration on December 1st. It will be at 10:30am in the South Shore. Students who will be participating, please write your name on the sign up sheet in our academy.

Unfortunately Mestre Cabeludo will not be able to attend our Batizado due to complications with getting his visa to Canada. Hence, the schedule has now changed for the following:

Thursday, October 27
Workshop 7pm – 9pm
Given by Contra-Mestre Fabinho from Dendê do Recife, Ottawa

Friday, October 28
Workshop 7pm – 9pm
Given by Contra-Mestre João de Deus from Sul da Bahia, Quebec

Saturday October 29
Batizado 10am – 1pm
Costume Party starts at 9pm, location to be announced in class. All students are encourage to invite their friends to come celebrate!

COST
For the students and visitors on the day of the Batizado (October 29th):
Batizado Shirt only – 20$
Spectators entrance fees – 5$

For the students of Porto da Barra
Beginner students:
Exams – 20$
Batizado & Troca de Corda costs $100 and includes shirt, cord and bag

Advanced students:
See Professor Comprido

Each additionnal roda and workshop:
Roda – 20$
Workshop – 35$ – All students changing cords SHOULD participate and ALL LEVELS are welcome.

The exams will be given during the month of October, between the 15th and the 28th. Each student should write a 500 words analysis of the physical training of the Montreal affiliate of Porto da Barra.

Each student should invite at least 5 people to see the Batizado which includes a maculele demonstration and a capoeira show. Again, the admission to the Batizado for spectators is $5.
